Turning Your Weakness into a Strength: How to Answer the Hardest Interview Question

armanifountain

One of the most challenging questions people face during an interview is “What is your biggest weakness?”. What makes this question so difficult is the fact that you have to find a fine balance between being honest about your weakness while at the same time not looking like you’re unqualified for the job. This question is also difficult because you don't want to say any cliché answers that sounds good, but gives little insight about you.

The best way to answer this question is to think of a weakness that you have that is not directly tied to the requirements of the role. For example, say you’re interviewing for a customer service role, you more than likely won’t have to give public presentations in a meeting or to a board so it wouldn’t hurt your chances to say that public speaking was an area that you wanted to strengthen.

The key after identifying your weakness is to show what actions you took to improve upon that weakness. It could be you joined a speaking club, or hired a coach. What this shows is that you took the initiative to improve upon your weakness and that you are committed to your own growth and development.

By following these steps, you can transform this dreaded interview question into an opportunity to showcase your self-awareness and commitment to growth. Remember, everyone has weaknesses, but it's the willingness to learn and improve that truly sets strong candidates apart. So, take a deep breath, prepare your answer strategically, and head into your next interview with confidence!
